Congrats once again to Flava Bill for crushing the rest of the field with his pick of UConn to go all the way. He was the only one in the pool to correctly pick the National Champion. In doing so he was able to overcome having the fourth lowest pick percentage in the pool at just 52%. Some stats from ESPN about UConn's season:

14-0 in tournament games

17-0 against teams outside the Big East

T-4th-most losses by a national champion (9)

3rd team to win title after not being ranked in preseason ESPN/USA Today Coaches' Poll

Calhoun: 5th coach with at least three national titles and the oldest coach to win a national title

Bill's prize: $365

Congrats to Marty Wallace. His first year in the pool and he takes second place and the $128 prize.

Third place goes to Doug Spillane for losing the tie-breaker - he gets $64.

Other pool/tournament stats:

There were no upsets in the Final Four which makes 20 in 63 games - a total of 31.7% which was exactly the number of upsets as last year.

A perfect bracket would have netted you a total of 291 points - last year's maximum possible points was 284.

The highest pick percentages weere turned in by Leon Newman and Noel Van Nyhuis - 62%.
The lowest pick percentage came from Walid - 46%. Last year he had the highest pick percentage at 68%
Flava Bill broke the record set last year by having the lowest pick percentage that has ever won the pool in pool history (52%) once again proving you don't have to pick the MOST games to win, just the RIGHT games.

The RPI Bracket did worse this year and the Tournament Committee did better. The last four years the Tournament Committee has averaged picks at 64.25% and has never finished higher than 7th. In the last two years the RPI Bracket hasn't finished higher than 24th.

Of course all of this pales in comparison to the President's picks who started out at a torrid pace but then cooled to finish at 68%. Once to the Elite Eight he did not get a single pick correct.

Again, congrats to Flava Bill, Marty and Doug.

Thanks for playing and see you next year!
